Our Local United Methodist Women (UMW)
Stuart Iowa
Locally we support those missions and local projects and take part in studies of spiritual topics or of those related to concerns of need in our world. We have been a Five-Star Unit for many years, contributing to the five plus items of giving to achieve that and meet once a month for programs.
UMW sponsor a Spring Breakfast and Fall Supper to raise funds.
UMW serve lunches at funerals of the church.
UMW support all Mission Work in the Church
UMW are involved with Community Day of Prayer
For all these activities we are assisted by the Helping Hands, and several men of the parish.
We would love to have other women join us in our organization.
The History of UMW
The history of a women’s organization in the Methodist Church is a long one. In 2019 the group will celebrate its 150th birthday, beginning in Boston in 1869 when a small group of women raised money to send two missionaries to India where they set up a school for girls and the first women’s hospital in Asia. Both institutions are thriving today. The United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women, with approximately 800,000 members whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders, and advocating for justice. Members raise up to $20 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.
